Chapter Events 2000/2001

Sunday, September 10, 2000, 4:00 p.m. Come and enjoy a picnic at the lovely home of Patricia Genchi, 20024 Idlewood Trail in Strongsville. Bring a salad or dessert to share and your ideas for programs, presenters, workshops, a theme, churches, etc. as we begin to design the 2003 Region V Convention.

Sunday, October 8, 2000, 4:00 p.m. Pipes Spectacular! Part of a national AGO effort to bring the wonder of pipe organ music to the community. Church of the Covenant, 11205 Euclid Avenue, Cleveland, is hosting this exciting event which will include organ music by Anne Wilson, Todd Wilson and Tim Robson; the YARD (Youth At Risk Dancing) from the Cleveland School of the Arts; liturgical dancer Karen Peterson; a bagpipe solo with organ accompaniment; the combined choirs of Church of the Covenant, Forest Hill Presbyterian and Euclid Avenue Congregational; and brass. We will host a reception. Free and open to the public--bring your friends!

Friday, October 27, 2000, 7:30 p.m. Organ Concert by Jeannette Fischell featuring the music of Peter Eben at the Cleveland Museum of Art, 11150 East Blvd., Cleveland. Ms. Fischell has performed at several AGO conventionsand has given recitals throughout the country.

Saturday, October 28, 2000, 10:30 a.m. Workshop and Master Class led by nationally known organist Jeannette Fischell. St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 2747 Fairmount Blvd., Cleveland Heights. Sunday,

November 12, 2000, 4:00 p.m. Organ concert by Ji-yoen Choi, winner of the 2000 National Young Artists Competition in Organ Performance of the American Guild of Organists. Following the exciting concert, we will give a reception in honor of Karen McFarlane, as she retires from many years of excellent service to the music community through her agency, Karen McFarlane Artists. November 19, 2000, 2:30 p.m. Organ concert given by Karel Paukert, Chief Curator of Musical Arts at the Cleveland Museum of Art, 11150 East Blvd., Cleveland. He will be joined by the University Circle Wind Ensemble. Mr. Paukert is the first recipient of our chapter's Award for Excellence in Sacred Music.

Sunday, November 26, 2000, 2:30 p.m. Organ concert given by Karel Paukert, Curator of Musical Arts, at the Cleveland Museum of Art, 11150 East Blvd., Cleveland. Mr. Paukert is the first recipient of our chapter's Award for Excellence in Sacred Music.

Sunday, January 7, 2001, 2:30 p.m. Organ concert given by Margaret Kemper, past president of the American Guild of Organists. Cleveland Museum of Art, 11150 East Blvd., Cleveland.

Monday, January 8, 2001, 7:00 p.m. Dinner and discussion with Margaret Kemper, past president of the American Guild of Organists. Come and meet Maggie, and learn about how our organization functions at the national level. We will meet at West Shore Unitarian Universalist Church, 20401 Hilliard Boulevard, Rocky River.

Sunday, January 21, 6:00 p.m. We will have a tour of the new organ installation at Severance Hall, 11001 Euclid Avenue, Cleveland. Tim Mann of the Schantz Organ Company will be our host. We will have an opportunity to walk through the pipe chambers and listen to the newly reinstalled 6,025 pipe Norton Memorial Organ, originally built in 1930 by Ernest M. Skinner, and recently restored by the Schantz Organ Company of Orville.

Sunday, March 4, 2000, 4:00 p.m. "Music of Women Composers" presented by Dr. Adel Heinrich at Church of the Covenant, 11205 Euclid Avenue, Cleveland. Dr. Heinrich has published a book, Organ and Harpsichord Music by Women Composers and will discuss the music presented by organists Todd Wilson, Nicole Keller, Peg Limkemann and Tim Robson, and the Church of the Covenant choir. Dr. Heinrich served on the screening board of the National Fulbright Scholarship Program and is professor emeritus of Colby College in Maine. Her book was selected by the August 1999 TAO as one of the top 20 books on organ music.

Sunday, March 18, 2001, 7:30 p.m. "Bach by Candlelight" at Forest Hill Presbyterian, 3031 Monticello, Cleveland Heights, with Anne Wilson organ and piano, Jeannette Sorrell, keyboard, and soprano Sandy Simon. This promises to be a wonderful evening of the magnificent music of Bach presented by outstanding artists. A reception will follow.

Wednesday, March 28, 2001, time to be announced AGO Regional Young Artists Competition at Forest Hill Presbyterian Church, 3031 Monticello, Cleveland Heights. Anne Wilson is organizing this competition, sponsored by our local chapter, to encourage young organists. Come and listen to some or all of the fine young competitors.

Sunday, April 29, 2001, 4:00 p.m. Children's Choir Festival at First Baptist Church, 3630 Fairmount Blvd., Shaker Heights. Come and enjoy a delightful program presented by the children's choirs of several area churches. Call Carol Neff for information on participating.

Sunday, May 6, 2001, 5:00 p.m. Hymn Festival and Annual Dinner at Church of the Saviour, 2537 Lee Road, Cleveland Heights. Organist Bob Day and Director Judith Higbee will be our hosts for an inspiring hymn festival, followed by dinner and installation of our new officers.

August, 2001 Choral Reading Session and Church Music Workshop at Kent State University, Hugh A. Glauser School of Music, Kent, Ohio. Presented by Kent State University, Educator's Music and the Cleveland AGO. Details to be announced.
